Who knows how insane 2025 will be? I’m not looking forward to it. I think about how we were so ready for 2020 to be over. Since then we’ve had the invasion of Ukraine, the genocide in Gaza, far-right governments making gains all over Europe, the election of Musk (oops sorry, the other guy), terrible climate events, AI takeover and so many other events that blow our minds.

In the midst of it all, Luigi Mangione caught our imagination as a folk hero but we quickly witnessed how the powerful and the rich are willing to do anything to manipulate justice, discourse, narrative, and everything. The internet fights back, but at this point it’s risky to believe anything.

As with the pandemic when I believed that animals were venturing into deserted towns and nature was reclaiming its place, I also believed that LM’s actions were going to be a spark for collective class consciousness. But no, there is no nuance, no will to discuss things. No open-mindedness. We are entrenched in our corners. An…
