It’s true, I will usually say I’m not a painter, I’m not a poet, I’m not a fiction writer, I’m not a photographer. I’m not a cook or a gardener. I think it must be my impostor syndrome speaking. I make no distinction between which of those statements are actually true. If I stop and think about them I’m certainly NOT a fiction writer, photographer, or gardener.
For years I’ve repeated the statement like a mantra: I’m not a painter, I’m a drawing artist.
But I’ve been painting.
