I’ve been having insomnia again. Lots of choppy nights, waking up constantly, or being unable to fall asleep.

I’d been avoiding the news most of the summer. After the terrible fires in Canada, the heatwaves, and the smog in Montreal, I couldn’t keep my doom at bay. But then I started to read again, and it just seemed to get worse and worse. I’ve been following certain activists and a lot of intelligent young writers who are reframing things or at least explaining what we need to do. 

The only response is direct action. Like the people in the U.K. with Just Stop Oil, the Indigenous peoples who block pipelines, and the Dutch who occupy airports so private jets don’t land. 

I get so anxious because I have never participated in something like this; the most I’ve done was marching with Greta in Montreal a few years ago, holding a sign that said Justin: I see your greenwashing or something l…
