I saw a book on my husband’s bookshelf titled The Saturated Self. The title was enough to understand my plight.
I was saturated to the point of nausea. Each day I would open my phone and scroll IG, past the ads past the suggested posts, past the desperation of so many small businesses trying to make people stop and click something.
Then came the tragedy of Palestine and Israel and I saw once again the couch-activists sharing things without context, terrible images, guilt-tripping those who didn’t position themselves on “the right side”.
Keeping quiet on Social Media is the best course of action in storms such as these and keeping informed.
Also reading no-holds-barred essays.
A part from that, posts were reaching very few people and if I look at my analytics, almost no one was clicking on my bio so I wasn’t going to miss anything if I removed this app from my phone. Same thing with Pinterest.
I was visually and mentally exhausted.
And, my work was stuck.
